Nam Chen Restaurantís Momo Making Class

 

Ingredients

There are no set ingredients for Momos. Meats and vegetables can all be chosen depending upon the culinary tastes of an individual. Some of the most common ingredients include:

 

  • Potato
  • Cabbage
  • Carrot Buddhism
  • Onion
  • Spinach
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Water
  • Masalas of Choice
  • Meat of Choice (for meat Momos, ie: yak, chicken, Pork, etc.)
  • Dough

 

Preparation

Finely cut and chop the ingredients. The meat in particular should be as finely chopped as possible, however no less than half a centimeter.

 

In a bowl, mix all of the ingredients thoroughly together with your hands. Make sure that the salt and masala are consistently mixed throughout.

 

The dough must then be prepared with a careful balance of water and flour only. After kneading it, place the dough in a bowl. Cover it with a towel and let it sit for 10 minutes. You will know that it is ready once it has a certain spring-like resistance.

 

Sprinkle a little flour on a very smooth surface. Take a ball of approximately 4 centimeters worth of dough, and using a rolling pin, roll it into a flat circle.

 

Pick up the flat circle of dough in the palm of one hand and then spoon in the amount of thoroughly mixed ingredients of your choice.

 

Gently close the palm of your hand while carefully squeezing together the top of the Momo using your thumb and index finger.

 

After closing all of the Momos, place them on one of the specials pans with holes. Place this pan on the cooker with boiling water on the stove.  The water beneath the pan causes steam to rise which will thoroughly cook your delicious Momos! They should be steamed and ready to eat in 15 minutes.
